FAQs
  • How is Educational Therapy different than tutoring?
Educational therapy and tutoring, while both supportive educational services, differ significantly in their approaches and goals. Tutoring focuses on academic support, helping students understand specific subjects, complete homework, and prepare for tests, making it ideal for those needing extra help but without underlying learning challenges. In contrast, educational therapy addresses deeper learning difficulties, such as learning disabilities or ADHD, using holistic and individualized methods that combine educational, psychological, and therapeutic techniques. The primary goal of educational therapy is to develop self-awareness, confidence, and cognitive strategies for independent learning. While tutoring is often short-term and subject-focused, educational therapy is typically longer-term, aiming to resolve root causes of learning difficulties and foster lasting academic and personal growth.
  • How long will my child need Educational Therapy Services?
Educational Therapy is fundamentally an individual journey unique to each student. The amount of time needed for effective progress varies significantly for each child, depending on the specific areas they are working on, as well as their personal approach to tackling learning tasks. The overarching goal of Educational Therapy is always to reach a point of effective termination, enabling students to navigate their school environment with enhanced skills, greater independence, and increased confidence. This personalized approach supports each child's growth and development in a meaningful way.
  • Are you able to make a diagnosis for my child?
As an Educational Therapist, we are not qualified to provide diagnoses; however, we are able to conduct detailed observations regarding a child’s unique learning profile based on the results of academic testing. Additionally, we can make appropriate referrals for comprehensive evaluations with a neuropsychologist or clinical psychologist, who possess the expertise to establish a specific diagnosis if needed. It is important to note that a child does not necessarily need to undergo a neuropsychological evaluation to start receiving Educational Therapy Services, as our support can be beneficial from the outset.
  • Are you available to additional services such as school meetings?
We are available to attend meetings with any and all members of your child’s educational team. This includes being present for team meetings, classroom observations, IEP meetings, and any other gatherings involving allied professionals who may be working with your child to support their educational journey.
  • What age groups do you work with?
We proudly serve children ranging from Pre-Kindergarten to high school. Our dedicated team of Educational Therapists and Learning Specialists possesses a diverse array of expertise, ensuring that your child can be matched with the most suitable clinician who aligns with your child’s unique learning profile and individual needs.
  • Can you bill my insurance?
Unfortunately, Educational Therapy is not covered by insurance in the state of California at this time. While we can provide a Superbill at the end of each month, which is a detailed receipt for services rendered, we have yet to have a client successfully receive reimbursement for these services.
